I understand that
hate is a strong word. But I hate the word
irregardless. It is lame.
Irregardless is a double negative, and grammatically incorrect. Now, I know that I make my fair share of grammar mistakes, but I REFUSE to use this word. I was told the other day that it was indeed a word, and sure enough,
Wikipedia has an entry for it. However, I'd like to note that Wikipedia acknowledges its existence as being a double negative and as unpopular.
To boot (a phrase that's growing on me),
Webster just says, straight up, "use
regardless." Thank you, Webster. Thank you.
Our spell check friends here at Blogger underline it in red for me, but refuse to give me any alternate spellings when I turn on my spell check. Hmmmm...
What do you think? Am I the only one bugged by this crazy word?
haha...don't two negatives make a positive? Love the new layout, irregardless.
ReplyDeleteI hate the word too! It is dumb.
ReplyDeleteI totally hate it too! My boss says it all the time... that and "pacifically" instead of "specifically." It drives me CRAZY!
ReplyDeleteIrregardless of what you think, I am with Brian on this one. In mathematics a double negative is a positive. Therefore I am positive this is an awesome word! Regardless is just not as fun when you have a great word like irregardless to be used. :P
ReplyDeletethat's almost as annoying as when someone says "ATM machine"...... which means they're saying "automated teller machine machine".......... so ridiculous
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you.
