warning... deep thoughts from Meredith, at least deeper than the past few posts...
I've been thinking a lot lately about the word self and it's derivatives... other words like selfish, self-seeking, selfishness, etc. I've been plagued by these words, probably because I've been plagued lately by the realization of just how much I'm motivated by self. God's really begun to work on me with this one, and it's so much bigger than I ever realized. I think it's even the root of what we've always called deeper issues -- things like pride -- that we never want to talk about but really motivate us. Is anyone else motivated by self? Have you ever thought about how many of your words/thoughts/actions during the day stem from selfishness? I don't even want to begin to list mine! The good news: Christ has rescued us from the darkness of self! I want to be motivated, not out of selfishness, but out of love for God and for others!
...end deep thoughts.
Funny as this has been a topic of recent conversations. It can become easy to try to raise up your "self". We all want to feel valued and when we don't get it, who better than self to lift you up. At least that is what we think, because we can control our "self". I could go on. I resonate.
ReplyDeleteSo do you have any answers or just quesions? This is something that I think a lot of people resonate with. When you discover the cure you need to write a book. When your book blows up and you become a huge author remember me. Wait...is it selfish for me to want your book to do well because that will draw traffic to your blog which will eventually lead people to my blog? :)
ReplyDeleteSelf leads me nowhere expect to depravity and disgust. Thankfully though when I get there I can look up and see Christ in His glory, power, and strength. I wish however I did not have to go through that many times to be reminded of how insufficient Nic is, but the perfect sufficiency of Christ.
ReplyDeleteResonate, yes.
You've become a statistic...someone who starts a blog but doesn't blog. Boo I say...boo.
