I don't like New Year's Resolutions, or at least I didn't until the past couple of years. I've been inspired by some good friends who sit down at the beginning of the year together, as a couple, and talk through what's most important about their year, what they want to accomplish in the coming year, how they want to improve their lives in all aspects - physically, spiritually, fiscally, etc.
We did this for the first time in 2010. We did ok. Not great. Actually, some might say that we failed. We did about 14 things we wanted to accomplish, and failed to complete 18 other goals. In some way though, it is great to know that those 14 things are done, finished, accomplished. This means we can keep working on the other goals, and add some new ones.
Looking back at last year's goals helps me see how far we've come in just this year, how much we've grown, how our priorities have changed, and helps us know exactly where we want to go.
Our categories include: Spiritual (individual and as a couple), Financial, Family, Health, Travel, and Someday/Maybe. We tried to make real practical goals, some lofty ones, and few that are "MUST!" goals. We put ours in a private google doc, so that we can both access it from our computers and that helps a lot! The sky is the limit with our someday/maybe goals.
Any advice on how to improve on completing goals? What do you do for resolutions? What goals do you have for 2011?
