Hey Community Group

Hey Community Group. Nice to meet you. That's what we are supposed to say at community group, right?

Confessions: I didn't especially want to go to group last night. I was jealous of folks who, like at my last church, get at least one other friend or couple of friends in their group. I didn't want to be asked to keep kids. I wasn't excited about more small talk. But, we went. And it was awesome, as should have been expected. Here are 4 things I learned at community group last night:

1. It's not about me. All of the above statements are selfish. They are about me. We don't go to community group just for ourselves. Its not about what I get out of it. It means also being community, contributing to group discussions, and offering encouragement to others.

2. Community Group makes church more personal. It's one thing to go sit in church on Sunday, but quite a different thing to "do life with people" thru community.

3. Mid-week encouragement and challenge are good for the soul. What's not to love about being encouraged by fellow believers and challenged to finish the week strong!

4. It's still not about me. I want to wake up everyday and be reminded that God is up to something much bigger than my specific circumstances. My prayer for today is that it wouldn't be about me at all... that I could live today as if I'm working for the Lord, and not for mankind. After all, that's the case, right?
