A Big Day... and a La-Z-Boy Chair!

Saturday is a big day for me... one of those life-defining days... that's right, I'm getting married. Tying the knot. Saying, "I do." Changing my name. Don't be silly, of course I'm not sitting in my office posting a blog today, but I'm at the beach, getting ready for the big day, enjoying the company of family and a few close friends, and awaiting the arrival of others still on the road.

Saturday afternoon, my dad will walk me down the aisle (of sand), give me away, and help perform our wedding ceremony. It'll be tough for him not to cry. My dad is one of those great spiritual influences in my life, a big part of my spiritual journey and story.

Recently, my husband-t0-be Nic and I inherited for our new home what Nic would call "the Jesus chair." It's the La-Z-Boy recliner my parents bought 31 years ago. It's quite worn in and, by some standards, broken. It's seen 3 or 4 different chair coverings, and many different living rooms along the way. This is the chair where I sat in my dad's lap as he led me to the Lord when I was ten years old. Very cool that this chair can be apart of our new home. The chair itself had no real life-altering power, but God definitely used it for His glory in my own life, and it's been a continual reminder of God's faithfulness across the years.

For me, it was a la-z-boy. At camp, I've seen God use a wiffle ball bat, a parachute game, a Frisbee, an "I'm a Christian now" book in the CK Store, a bowl of cake batter and a hand mixer on stage, the list goes on. It's really not about the physical things, but the people who are ready and willing to be used by God as instruments for sharing the Gospel with others. We all have those things, those people in our lives. Who and what are yours?

Oh, and what an honor that God allows us to be those people for so many kids at camp each summer!

Home

I'm home! Back in Nashville for a little while I hope! I can put away the travel toiletries and the 1 clear quart size bag filled with liquids and gels of 3 ounces or less. I can finally buy some groceries again. I can go to church. I can finally join the Y. I can get a haircut. I can finish my taxes. Funny the things that are difficult when you're away from home! Here's a quick recap of my January and February!

4 days working at CPC Nashville.
3 days at Laura's wedding in TX.
3 days recruiting at Ole Miss and University of Alabama.
3 days working at VBS Preview, Nashville.
7 days in San Diego -- 1 recruiting, 5 at CPC, 1 with Nic's fam.
5 days recruiting at Gardner-Webb, North Greenville, Clemson, and University of Georgia.
4 days visiting Nic and his fam in Cali for fun.
5 days working at Director Weekend at Ridgecrest.

That's DEFINITELY more days out of the office than in, and close to more days away from home than at home... it's been fun, but it's great to be back!

on the road once AGAIN!

Welcome to my forever long road-trip. I spent one week in San Diego for a conference... got home Sunday night... flew out Monday morning... and this week I've been on the East Coast interviewing college/seminary students for summer staff positions at camp. It's fun, but very draining! Lots of stories, funny quotes, and nervous voices. Hopefully there will be MANY funny quotes and experiences soon to come on this blog!

feelin' the blog love!

I've been feeling the blog love this week...

1. Featured in several Spirit Week pics at robshep.com.
2. Found a post that's been up for a couple of weeks now, about my new job!
3. And another post about my summer position at that job... I feel old seeing my picture from two years ago up next to all these young kiddos!
4. Finally, the King family who hold a special place in my heart, featured my favorite piece of furniture and some cute pics with their kids on their blog!

THANK YOU for the blog love, friends! I know you are waiting patiently for more posts to come about my time at Waters Edge... I just have to finish this thing called MOVING!
