I accepted the challenge at Catalyst to make a "stop doing" list, in contrast to a "to do" list... this was just a couple of weeks after my mentor challenged me to only fill my spare time with activities I really enjoy! Today city league softball season ends. I said "no" to playing for my over-populated team today, for the second Tuesday in a row. I cannot express how freeing this is... to not feel obligated to do something that I really didn't enjoy that much and that I felt was just filling my time. Don't get me wrong, softball is fun. But, when I have too many other things on my plate already, something's got to be dropped. What do you need to stop doing?
In my mind, there's a big difference between saying "no" and being a flake. Don't be a flake, but JUST SAY NO! You'll be happy you did.
that is some solid advice. But how do you develop yourself to be able to say no to helping someone?
