I’m sad to say that the time has come. That’s right. It’s November 6th. That means my official LARC pass is no longer valid, starting today. For 6 months I could come and go on NASA as I pleased. My rocket scientist friends (who all work hard to protect their top-secret NASA projects) laughed often at my ability to come and go whenever. In honor of no longer being welcomed at NASA, let me share a few of my favorite NASA memories:
- The first day I was on base, my car got “randomly” searched… I was thinking, “seriously, I’m not the girl you want, and no, I’m not stealing your NASA secrets!”
- The Swingers… my awesome softball team! At least once a week, I’d be asked, “so where do you work?” Thinking I’d spit some crazy letter/number like 1239XRQ blah blah blah, I got many startled looks when I answered, “Waters Edge Church, just up in York County.” This actually led to some pretty incredible conversations!
- Frisbee… every Monday and Wednesday at 5:30pm during the summer – rain, or shine, or wind, or tornado warning, or extreme heat advisory… we still played.
- The Driving Range… who knew my pass meant I could play golf at the air force base?!?
- The Air Show: I tried to get onto base to see the end of the airshow and the fireworks with friends one night this summer. I showed my driver’s license and heard, “Sorry, ma’am, it’s too late.” I flashed my NASA badge and heard, “That’ll work! Go right ahead.” …Yesssss!
Thanks NASA… it was fun while it lasted!
good thing you've got Tuesday nite's of frisbee-excellence to make up for it now!
