do you do this?

I know I do this... do you?   This picture made me laugh.  It looks like he's trying awfully hard to make this work, but that chocolate looks pretty heavy for a four year old!  I cropped this photo, but he's standing in this picture with his two older siblings who have no problem balancing the chocolate and smiling for the camera at the same time.

We do this all the time.  We want more.  We want the biggest and the best.  We want what others have and we want to do what others do.  We want the most we think we can handle or better yet, what we think we deserve.  Why do we want it?  Because it's there, it's in front of us, we can see it.  Could you eat that whole Hershey bar?  Probably.  In one sitting? Maybe not.  Would it be good for your? Absolutely not. (Feel free to comment if you disagree).

Maybe I'm the only one who sees the connection here, but think about it... What are you trying really hard to hold in your hands while you work to smile at the same time?  What are you wanting or desiring that you know you shouldn't really have?  God has granted us many, many freedoms as Christ-followers.  Too often we fail to embrace those, on our quest for more stuff.  Let go, and drop it.  I wonder how much bigger that smile would be if he weren't trying to carry something so big!

Don't worry, his parents didn't buy him the Hershey bar... he just posed for a picture with it!
